Think Ahead for the Perfect Weed Free Garden

Whilst putting the garden to bed for the winter, cutting back perennials and mowing the lawn for the last time, applying a weed killer now can help control persistent weeds with deep roots, saving you a bigger job next year.

To prevent the likely hood of woody weeds, such as brambles returning, it is best practice to cut back the weed before spraying it with a weed killer and then reapplying the product again as they re-shoot prior to winter. Ideal for this is Roundup XL Tough & Deep Root Ready to Use, which is available in a new easy to use 1-litre sprayer and will control most perennial, tough, deep-rooted weeds such as brambles, nettles, thistles and couch.

Along with other unwanted vegetation around the garden, tree saplings and stumps that re-grow can be a problem. Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer, available in a 250ml-dispensing bottle, can be applied with a brush to the exposed stump or to notches in the bark - working its way down to the roots so it won’t grow back. It can also be used on the trunk of well-established ivy plants during the dormant period between October and March.

In addition, a 20% solution of Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer can be poured into the hollow stem of Japanese Knotweed if treating after mid August.

Japanese Knotweed Tightens Grip on UK Mortgages

Renowned for its invasive nature, Japanese Knotweed is now sabotaging mortgage applications, with an increasing number of lenders refusing applications if its identified on a property survey.

Although hardwearing and tricky to remove, Japanese Knotweed can be treated using Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer. Simply, cut back the stems to a height of 200mm and 40mm above a node. Rupture the central tissue with a screwdriver and apply 10ml of a 20% solution of treatment into the hollow stem.

Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer features an easy to use, non-drip, dispensing bottle, which ensures correct measurements every time, whilst its systemic action takes the formula right down to the weeds growing points, and put simply, kills the Japanese Knotweed from the inside out.

When can my children/pets return to the treated area?

When Roundup has been absorbed by the leaf, the residue will dry. When the residue has dried, children and pets can be allowed back onto the treated areas.

Can Roundup kill Japanese Knotweed?

Yes, but you will need to use Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer. It may take several applications – please read the label for further advice.

When can I replant/reseed after use?

Roundup is only active in plants and is inactivated on contact with the soil. It is then broken down by soil micro organisms so that you can re-use the soil for re-planting. We recommend that you leave treated weeds for about 7 days before digging or cultivating the soil to allow Roundup to move to the roots of the weed.
