Roundup seasonal guide to weed killing - May

Roundup - Monthly weed killer Guide - may

Roundup Weedkiller: weed killing tips for May

May

  • Late emergent weeds can still be a problem. Apply a spot treatment with Roundup on each of them once they have 4-6 leaves - avoid touching the surrounding ornamentals.
  • A spot treatment with Roundup kills and clears weeds from paths and terraces. Wait until the weeds are dead (2 weeks), before sweeping the debris.
  • Cut back Nettles now and treat the re-growth in September.
  • Feed weed and mow lawns to encourage good growth
  • New plants and vulnerable plants must be watered regularly
  • Plant oxygen producing plants in the pond
  • Plant out summer bedding at the end of the month (except in cold areas)
  • Watch out for late frosts, protect tender plants
  • Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of daffodils and other spring flowering bulbs
  • Clear out spring bedding and replace
  • Protect young plants from slugs and snails
  • Prune clematis Montana after flowering
  • Finish planting evergreen shrubs
  • Continue planting vegetables of the season
  • Replenish water plants with aquatic fertilizer

When can my children/pets return to the treated area?

When Roundup has been absorbed by the leaf, the residue will dry. When the residue has dried, children and pets can be allowed back onto the treated areas.

Can Roundup kill Japanese Knotweed?

Yes, but you will need to use Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer. It may take several applications – please read the label for further advice.

When can I replant/reseed after use?

Roundup is only active in plants and is inactivated on contact with the soil. It is then broken down by soil micro organisms so that you can re-use the soil for re-planting. We recommend that you leave treated weeds for about 7 days before digging or cultivating the soil to allow Roundup to move to the roots of the weed.
